Camellia japonica 'Akashigata'
also known as 'Lady Clare', amongst other synonyms.
Parentage not recorded.
Ito Ko'em, Japan before 1859 to van Houtte, Holland later, and named after Lady Clare when imported into the UK.
The name 'Akashigata' takes precedence.

Wide weeping growth; fast growing.
Flowers: large (12 to 14cm) semi-double, with petals of a crepe like texture; deep peach pink.
Early to mid season.
Foliage: large dark green smooth elliptical and cordate.
Still one of the best camellias.
